About Jakobsen Surface Grinder
Our history
Svend Jakobsen’s Maschinery A / S was founded in 1942 by Svend Jakobsen, who started to develop and produce small accessories for bench grinders, milling machines, slotting machines and machines for sharpening blades. This production continued until 1952, after which the first type of surface grinders – namely SJ10 – was born.
In 1954-55 production started then with SJ12, which is the type surface grinder produced most of all time. Unfortunately saw Svend Jakobsen even the success of this type on the international market, as he died after severe illness at the age of just 42 years after production of approximately 10-12 paragraph type SJ12.
The whole production took place at Nordmarksvej in eastern Amager in rented premises, but in 1961 moved to new buildings on Amager Road, which consisted of offices and production area totaling 1300m2.
His co-working wife continued to perform the finance function, but the staff then production manager OV Nielsen to handle the technical side of the company. Widow Jakobsen’s adult daughter and son were not interested in going into business, but was only board members with OV Nielsen, who had a minor shareholder share.
Then retired from the family Jakobsen of the company in 1972 and sold all the stock shares to the new owner dir. O.V. Nielsen.
Due to the great demand for machines in the early 70s increased production significantly and production area was in 1972 expanded to include approximately 6000m2.
Until 1976 comprised the entire production program of eight types of standard machines which had different design, as these were developed by different engineers through the ages. It was therefore decided that we should develop a more advanced line of grinders, which also was a revolutionary innovation in this area and further extended Jakobsen’s palette of offerings of grinders.
This led to a series of MODULE MACHINES with automatic compensation for afretningsværdi (6 types) were included in the production, which were introduced at EMO Hannover in 1977 as “second to none” in relation to our competitors’ technology in grinding machines. At the same time resulted in the total standardization of parts included in the production of these machines, which resulted in a reduction of the total stock value.
Also caused the new name of the module machines type designation, customers, vendors and resellers now able to relate to the individual machines grinding capacity, which is absolutely not the case with the old standard program.
It turned out that with this new development really a need arose as the market was and needed.
In 1981 it was decided to standardize the existing standard program in the same way, namely, using the same concept as the underlying modular machines. The range of types 618,824,1026,1032,1424 and 1432 was thus born, the grinding capacity of each type is expressed in inches (6 “x18” etc.). This development and total standardization was completed in 1983, which resulted in great storage and production savings.
CEO. O.V. Nielsen’s two sons were employed as respectively. finance and service staff 1978-80, and in 1983 was made a generation, so that the sons took over the company and OV Nielsen went on “pension”.
Later developed new lines of both standard and automatic lines, which were developments in contemporary art in mechanics and electronics. Throughout the 1980s through the machines a cosmetic, design-related rejuvenation, while it was now more “legally” – the market was more motivated – to use colors other than those to date traditional mouse gray or green RAL colors.

2015 Retrofit program introduced
In 1990, again developed new machines with up-to-date improvements, both electrical and mechanical. Jakobsen was again at the forefront, and as the first grinding machine manufacturer introduced the linear guides on the cross movement with servo motor and drive. This resulted not only in quality, but again brought major cost reductions with, while scratching the time of stiles etc. on each machine was reduced by more than 50%.
Simultaneously, the construction of the grinding spindle simplified and made more service friendly for the replacement of spindle bearings. The market requested a larger type of machine than the hidtige 1432, so type in 1832 was constructed in both standard and AC version. Thus Svend Jakobsen Maskinfabrik now present this new concept while extending the program in early 1990.
The whole industry in Europe had very difficult times in terms sales in 1992 continued in 1993, which led to many companies went bankrupt. Svend Jakobsen’s Equipment A / S heard Unfortunately, among these, which occurred 4 August 1993.
After there had been many negotiations with various new investors, he finally with the Dutch dealer De Ridder as owner, to start business again under the name Jakobsen Surface Grinders A / S under the leadership of Ben Scherr (De Ridder).
New resident for the production of flat ships machines, perished then in rented rooms on the stock islet, hvidovre.
In 2000, the later director Torben Skaanild employed to relieve BS in daily work, and bought at the same time 65% of the shares and continued to the end of November 2002.
Pr. 1-12-2002 was JSG A / S sold to Obel-P Holding, Bagsvaerd with dir. Asbjørn Thomsen as owner.
In 2004 Jakobsen again a new owner, as FA Müggler acquired all assets and moved production to Slangerup shortly after.
A year after the acquisition was recognized to present three new machines at the EMO trade fair in Hamburg, namely 618, 1032, and the 1032nd
In March 2013 were Jakobsen part of Bast & Co. However, still with our own name and brand. We focus also remains on the old virtues that since its foundation in 1942 has made Jakobsen Surface Grinders to one of the most sought-orbital in the world, with more than 13,000 machines produced.
The company is now owned by Jens Hansen and a group of employees. The focus – with the same concept – the craftsmanship combined with the latest technology in the repair and maintenance of the Surface Grinders. The company works for a quality system that ensures consistent and documented benefits. Jakobsen has together with its parent company Bast & Co., over 3,000 square meters of well-equipped workshops and offices. The factory in Vejle is located a few hundred meters from the E45 motorway.
Over time designed and developed more than 30 different Jakobsen Surface Grinders, of which the latest Jakobsen plan grinder 1832 CNC New Line from 2014.
